Secrets

Secrets starts out with two lovers having an intimate conversation in bed.

"Are you keeping a secret?"

"Not deliberately." The best move I ever made was to be truthful with myself, I put aside the ever-present self-doubts and answered, "What do you want to know?"

"I saw the scars, the scars on the inside of your thigh when I was down there this morning and some of them are fresh. Do you want to talk about it?"

No, I want to buy time to make the much-needed transformation away from unhealthy coping mechanisms. But instead, I lower my eyes and reply, "Doesn't matter anymore. The only thing that matters is right now, this morning; you and me, here in this bed."

The saying is that you are only as sick as your secrets.

His secret is not the only secret he is keeping from her.
